Asbestos Abatement

In the 1970’s the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began restricting the use of asbestos when studies proved that people who breathed its microscopic dust in mines, asbestos plants, and shipyards for decades were becoming ill and often dying after exposure. The EPA began a 10-year phase-out of products containing asbestos. But because many homes and businesses were built prior to the ban, concern about asbestos continues.

If you think asbestos might be present in your home or business, you’ll want a certified asbestos testing and abatement specialist, and Emergency Restoration Experts is your solution. Our qualified professionals will test to see if asbestos is present and do what is necessary to remove it, safely and completely.

Your EPA/AHERA certified Emergency Restoration Experts Asbestos team will follow these important steps:

1. Inspect your building to identify which materials may contain asbestos, and determine which EPA, OSHA and/or local regulations apply to your structure.

(According to OSHA regulations, all installed building materials are assumed to contain asbestos until they are proven asbestos free. Current EPA/AHEA regulations require a complete survey of regulated facilities prior to disturbance of building materials.)

2. Develop a site-specific abatement and health/safety plan. (Designated as a Component Person as defined by OSHA.)

3. Conduct an onsite pre-abatement walk through and inform you of the project scope, requirements and scheduling.

4. Restrict the work area to authorized persons only and begin work area preparation by constructing a negative pressure containment to protect abatement workers as well as building occupants.

(Once the containment has been erected and tested, only authorized, trained and certified asbestos professionals will be allowed to enter the work area and remove the asbestos.)

5. Remove all asbestos and clean the work area.

6. Take air samples to insure the area is safe for re-occupancy.

7. Package and transport all waste to an EPA approved landfill.
